Philmont teaches the "Bearmuda Triangle". Keep your "smellables" considerably away from where you sleep and hang them in a bear bag. On two treks I took there with my sons (and their troop) we practiced this and never had an issue.

You can also take out your closed cell foam pad and crouch down on that - helps insulate you from the ground.

I have a very hard time following advice from someone who thinks Alluminum foil is the answer for not cleaning out a dutch oven. It's not that hard to do. I don't even like to use parchment paper or the dutch oven liners (which are more expensive versions of parchment paper). I want the benefit of cooking in cast iron. If you don't want to have clean up chores, you're defeating that benefit.

Here are just a few ideas that I've discovered over the years. Used metal coffee cans work very well for a place to put your lid so it's not on the ground getting dirty or on the table burning a ring into it. Also keep a plastic bag of spent coffee grounds in the can and you can use them to help clean the oven - great scouring agent and not as hard on the metal as salt. I also keep a box of baking soda in my kit and a gallon of water for rinsing. By the way before you put the oven away, throw in another handfull of dry spent coffee grounds to help absorb any oders during storage. I only use wooden tools Inside the oven. Keep the metal tools for the charcoal. Also, a really good lid lifter is just a simple claw hammer. The other thing you might want is a couple of trivents about a 3 inch and a 6 inch high trivet can be very helpful. Even if your oven has legs on the bottom they're too short and you'll be setting that oven right on top of the coals. You can't regulate your heat that way. And if you're in soft sand the legs will sink into the sand. Another good thing for dutch oven cooking is what some call a trivet but it goes INSIDE the oven to keep meat from sitting in the juice. You can buy them in different sizes for each oven. OR...I often just use about three Mason Jar lid rings. They're cheaper.
